Zappos caused quite a stir with their recent announcement that they would be removing levels of management and allowing employees to self-organize.  The move had many HR executives googling “holacracy” – an approach that claims to bring structure and discipline to a peer-to-peer workplace. Like holacracy, ROWE challenges traditional organizational hierarchies.  Indeed it is a wholesale rejection of the traditional command and control  model of organizations.

In this session Pam will lay out the basics of ROWE and the opportunities and challenges it represents.  She will explain how for it to succeed two core elements must be in place. First, you need a clear organizational purpose and strategy. People must understand where the organization is headed and why, as well as how they contribute to that strategy. Second, People must trust and be trusted in order for leaders to relinquish their power and individuals to lead themselves with integrity and authenticity.
