As we launch into 2016 on the new theme of “The Shifting Nature of Work and the Workplace: What does it mean for OD? “, Lou Pike, an instructor at the Ryerson Business School and organizational consultant will share a model that effectively describes and represents engagement in cross-cultural teams. Join us an equip yourself with the knowledge of a framework that is going to be essential for the success of organizations in this emerging work environment.
If you hold the assumption that 'employee engagement' means motivation/job satisfaction/commitment to the organization, this workshop will show how our appraisal of employee's engagement is coloured by our perceptions. Specifically, it will show how we are influenced by "the fundamental attribution error", which is the belief that an employee's behaviour reflects an 'internal' state; e.g. low motivation, lazy, doesn't take work seriously, poor work habits. The focus of the workshop (it will be experiential to an extent) will show how our perceptions are impacted by our cultures. It introduce a model for describing and comparing cultures and what happens when, in diverse workplaces or cross-cultural teams these cultural values bump up against one another.
